Chapter 2: The World under the Snow (part 1)

Lin Yiyang was very familiar with the neighborhood and quickly found the store.

A very simple shop, a small-sized place, a glass cabinet on the right is connected to the checkout counter, a few small shelves on the left, with peripheral products, dozens of hemp rope bags, filled with brown coffee beans, all have handwritten on white cardboard.

There was only a young couple in the store, also picking beans.

They were pointing and taking softly against the white wall above the sack, on which were the names, origins and flavors of the coffee beans.
The girl in the couple picked one bean, put it in the boy’s mouth, and let him taste it.

Lin Yiyang picked two beans and put them in Yin Guo’s palm.
He pointed to her mouth.

”Try it,” he said.

She originally wanted to taste the beans carefully, but Lin Yiyang kept looking at her, gradually chewing them slowly, she felt more and more uncomfortable.
He seemed to have sensed her thoughts, looked away, took two sweet and sour berries from the burlap bag next to him, and stuff them into her palm.

Yin Guo took it and held in her palm, but didn’t eat.
It was not a good idea to try again this time.

After the two couples left, there were only three of them left in the store.
She and Lin Yiyang were on the coffee beans side, and her cousin was in the last row of the shelf, picking out gifts.

Yin Guo was not used to trying beans, so she took out a tissue, spit out the beans, and clenched it into a ball in her palm.

All this was seen by the man beside her.

He pointed to the small corner on the left side of the counter, motioning her to the trash can there.

Yin Guo threw the paper ball and listened to him ask herself, ”What does your friend want?”

Several.

Just now, she wanted to study how to read the names, look them up in the dictionary, and ask the check when she learnt them.
Lin Yiyang saved her by asking such a question.

Yin Guo showed him the names, and he called a clerk over and pointed at a few bags of coffee beans.
The clerk smiled and chatted with him, and Yin Guo listened as the clerk saying that these beans are the best sellers.

When she was settling the bill, Lin Yiyang raised his right arm and looked at his watch.

Yin Guo immediately said: ”You must have been in a hurry, hurry up and go, I have bought it anyway.”

He looked at his watch several times when he came out of the coffee shop.

First, he rushed there in a hurry, didn’t eat lunch, then he wiped out the coffee and panini, and brought them here.
Although he didn’t say it, it made people feel that everything was in a hurry.
It is estimated that he came from Washington again..

”Make an appointment when you are free?” He also knew that he couldn’t delay any longer.

Yin Guo nodded.

Lin Yiyang didn’t say much, he pushed open the door and walked out.

Through the glass, Yin Guo saw him crossing the road without taking a taxi.
He should have gone to the nearby subway station.

As she watched him leave, she recalled that night.

On the Blizzard night.

The figure on the glass is translucent, swaying gently.

The light in the room was dim, and it shot through the glass window, barely illuminating half the street.
Using the light, she saw a huge black shadow fall across the road and hit the roof of a car.

The alarm sounded immediately.

“What sound?” asked the other side of the phone.

“The tree was broken, and the car was smashed,” Yin Guo covered her left ear, so that she could hear her friend’s words clearly amide the loud music, “Blizzard is terrible, do you know what the temperature is now? -20 degrees below 0.5.”

“Who asked you to go in winter, I have reminded you,” Zheng Yi yawned, still laughing at her, “Blizzard is very common in winter in New York, please ask yourself for more blessings.”

Yin Guo didn’t even have strength to complaint: “I haven’t showered for three days and three nights.
You must help me get the hotel tonight.”

“Wait, I’ve been checking.”

The phone hangs up.

Yin Guo returned to her cousin Meng Xiaotian and said tiredly: “Wait a while, Zheng Yi is looking for a hotel, she will inform later.”

Meng Xiaotian played at a high level and didn’t care: “It’s really not good, just stay here and play all night.”

She was not as well as Meng Xiaotian, so she slumped on the bar and looked out the window.

Who would have thought that she could meet the strongest Blizzard in ten years.

First, the plane took off at the Capital Airport with a delay of ten hours, and flew over the vast sea to New York.
Because of the blizzard, the plane couldn’t land, after hovering in the sky for more than two hours, then went to Chicago.

That night, Chicago hotels were full, and airlines were unable to arrange accommodation.
The siblings were in the waiting hall, one sleeping on a bench and the other on the floor, and followed a group of stranded passengers waiting for the next day’s flight. The next morning, they washed up in the airport restroom, ready to go with anticipation. As a result, they waited from early morning to dark before being arranged to board the plane to New York.

Luckily this time, they finally landed in New York.

As soon as the plane landed, the stewardess informed everyone that there was no parking space in New York, and everyone could not get off the plane.
They had to wait for the airport to arrange.

A group of people who slept all night at the airport continued to sleep with their heads covered on the plane.

After sleeping for six hours, she was woken up by the radio, with red eyes and drooping head in queue to get off the plane.

After getting off the plane, Yin Guo sat on the trolley, waiting for the luggage only to fall asleep again.
At dusk, the luggage was finally delivered by the conveyor belt. She thought she had seen the dawn, but the hotel called: due to not checking in on time, both rooms were cancelled.

At that time, she stood at the entry gate and almost cried.

Fortunately, a Chinese girl who was sleeping at the airport in Chicago stopped her after leaving the customs and said that she will be picked up by her family in a car. The other party told Yin Guo that in such a blizzard, it was more difficult to get a taxi than to climb to the sky. She suggested that Yin Guo could take her car to leave the airport and go to Manhattan, which was better than staying at the airport.

With the help of kind-hearted people, Yin Guo and his cousin were sent here.

Despite the blizzard outside, at least there was wine and food.

Someone behind her pushed open the frozen glass door.

The cold wind blew mercilessly across the back of her neck, Yin Guo shivered and pulled up the neckline of her down jacket.

Meng Xiaotian also wrapped his coat tightly: “It’s so fucked up, I thought we crossed into “The Day After Tomorrow”.”

Not to mention, it’s like.

The scene of ” The Day After Tomorrow” is New York, the frozen Statue of Liberty, the cruise ship rushing up from the sea, and the library that saves everyone… Yin Guo likes to watch disaster movies the most, and has watched this movie 7 or 8 times.
The original scene seems reproduced now.

At this moment, the mobile phone shows that the outdoor temperature is minus 25°, and with the blessing of the cold wind effect, the somatosensory temperature is already minus 40°. They came in the thickest down jackets, which were completely unbearable outdoors in this weather.

When she just got out of the car with her luggage here, she felt like she was about to freeze.

Yin Guo put the phone in front of him and let Meng Xiaotian watch, not to miss Zheng Yi’s messages. After explaining, she put on her down jacket and hat, put her hands on the edge of the bar, rested her head on it, and closed her eyes.

”It’s really cold.” Meng Xiaotian was chanting the scriptures beside her.

The band on stage sang an old song with a melodious tone, like a hot sun, like a sunny day, like all images related to summer. The lead singer whispered in English between the songs, he was playing and singing to the girl he admired, he was deeply attracted to her, he couldn’t extricate himself, he was fascinated, he was deeply in love, but he was timid and shy, wandering and stopping, not knowing what to do.
Close to recognizing the song—

It’s ”YELLOW”.

“Sister.” Meng Xiaotian called her.

“Yeah.” Yin Guo answered.

“Xiaoguo.” Meng Xiaotian patted her as if something really happened.

Yin Guo used her last strength, raised her head, and opened her eyes.

In the blurred vision, a strange thing appeared, a glass of wine.

And, of course, the man behind the glass.

It’s a young man. The upper part of the body is wearing a black winter jacket and a black hat.
It is impossible to see how long the hair is.
Anyway, it is not long hair . Pupils are dark. The skin is white, the face is thin, the chin is pointed, and the bridge of the nose is not as high as that of Europeans and Americans, but it is still high.

Asian? Likely.

Chinese people? Not sure, he hasn’t spoken yet.

“Please,” the man said.

Eh? Chinese people?

Yin Guo took off the hat of the down jacket, sat up straight, and was about to speak when a man with glasses who also looked Chinese leaned over and put the second glass of wine in front of Meng Xiaotian: “This is yours.”

“Thank you.” Meng Xiaotian giggled.

“You’re welcome,” said the man with glasses, “compatriots.”

Meng Xiaotian immediately introduced Yin Guo to them: “This is my sister.”

They know each other? How can it be? Meng Xiaotian came to New York for the first time.

Yin Guo looked at his cousin.

“When you were on phone, they came in at the table next to me,” Meng Xiaotian explained to her.
“I heard them speak Chinese, so I asked casually, what kind of wine is good here.”

Yin Guo understood.

The man with glasses smiled and asked, “Didn’t you two find the hotel? Are you trapped here?”

In this weather, no one is in the mood to bring three large suitcases with fresh labels to the bar for entertainment.
It is reasonable to speculate that the two siblings are trapped here.

“Yeah, I originally booked a hotel, but it was cancelled.
Now I’m waiting for my friends to find it,” Meng Xiaotian said proactively, “I hope I can find it.
It’s really not good.
It’s okay to wait here until tomorrow morning, anyway, there is something to eat and drink.
.”

The man with glasses smiled: “He called a car.
If you can confirm the hotel, I will take you there first.”

The “he” in the glasses man’s mouth is naturally the man who doesn’t talk much.

“That’s great.” Meng Xiaotian was moved crazy.

“Let’s wait for you to book,” the man with glasses said with a smile.
“If it’s done early, follow his car, if it took a long time, I’ll take you off .
The subway here extends in all directions, and you can get to almost any place.”

Meng Xiaotian raised his glass happily: “Thank you, brother.”

“You’re welcome.” The man in glasses clinks glasses with him.
