All throughout the remaining hours of the day, Liam and Brielle barely spoke anything to each other, making Audrey and Cali give each other meaningful side glances. Cali eventually learned how to ride the bicycle without training wheels for just a short span of time, being a brilliant kid as she is. Liam is visibly troubled with the way Brielle is behaving around him.

Growing up, the two of them were inseparable. Brielle used to be a chubby little girl with a feisty attitude. She would not tolerate not even a single rude word spoken to her.

Growing up, their Mom always taught them to say self-appreciation statements everyday which helped build her self-worth. Liams family has been their long-time neighbor, their house is located just across theirs.

As a child, Liam used to be frail, thin, and scrawny. He was timid and put-up with the intense bullying at school until one day, Brielle stood up for him.

”My mom told me Asians barely have anything to eat, ” A fat kid with reddish skin complexion and freckles all over his body said as they trapped Liam down the hallway while he was on his way out.

Another boy slammed his arm on the wall, trapping Liam further. ”Really? That must be the reason why he is so thin and… bony! ” The group of three laughed which resounded in the hallway.

Passing elementary students turned their heads to Liams direction but no one really had the guts to stand up for him. They all had the look of pity on their faces, internally wishing theyd have the gallantry to help him out.

Not until a chubby 411 girl with pigtails, a trolley Barbie bag, and pink jumpers screamed at the bullies, making them turn their head in her direction all at once.

Mom always taught me that I can fight bullies without using my fist, She thought to herself and exhaled deeply before taking huge strides on the way to the bullies.

Brielle was not really all that confident in fighting them off. If one is to put extra attention to her scream earlier, it is evident that her voice was shaking a little bit. Even though she was scared, she just could not just disregard someone being bullied. She thought, His mother could be waiting for him at home,

Brielle knew Liam. He was the kid living at the house just across their white house because it was painted white. Brielles mother would trim their outdoor plants every morning and during those times, she got to talk to Liams parents which eventually led to a good friendship. However, the kids, Brielle and Audrey never really got to talk to him in person because he was a shy kid.

”Let go of him or else I will report you directly to the principals office! ” Brielle growled which fortunately, scared the bullies away. She just thought of that line suddenly after hearing it from a movie somewhere.

After that, she sassily dragged her trolley bag forward to go to Liam who was crying so hard. For the past years, no one really stood by him, no one dared to help him. His younger years were spent putting up with the bullies which affected him adversely.

Of course, he wanted to defend himself. But, his body just could not allow him to do so. He was frail and sickly. He also knew Brielle because they are neighbors. Despite that, he didn get to talk to her because he was shy. Brielle is so cute, bubbly, and friendly.

”Tha-… Thank you, ” His head hung low, Liam stuttered to thank Brielle. She was more than proud to finally help him because for the past years, she was just watching him get bullied because she was also scared.

Since then, Brielle and Liam would go and leave school together. However, as they reached high school, Liam was sent abroad to study. It was hard because for a year, they were together almost everyday and Liam was very much welcomed in Brielles home.

Since his departure, a lot of things have happened. Brielles father left them for another woman when Cali was just a baby. It took a toll on her, really.

Brielle occupied herself to finish the book she was reading. It is a historical book that tackled the hardship people experienced a hundred years ago. She was so engrossed with reading the novel that she almost jumped out of her bed when her mobile phone lit up indicating that a message was received.

Twitching her eyebrows, Brielle closed the book and put it aside. She reached for her phone on the bedside table and looked at it.

Unknown Number: Hey, I am sorry.

”Who could this be? ” She asked herself and tilted her head contemplating who it might be. She typed in a response, ”Whos this? ”

Unknown Number: Oh, Im sorry. Its Liam

Her eyes grew big and she immediately shifted on her seat, clutching a pillow. Alright, it was already a given that she feels guilty with how she acted around Liam. But she can hide the fact that it was out of decency, the least thing she could do is not to cause him any further embarrassment.

She typed in, ”Hey, its okay. You don have to apologize, really. It is all on me ” Brielle sent it right away and just as she was about to put her phone away, Liam replied.

”I don have a girlfriend. Uh, you really should not feel bad about it. No one even likes a boring dude like me, ” The message says so.

Brielle rolls her eyes with his sudden self-deprecating manner because obviously, he is not boring. Second, it would be the most impossible thing in the world that nobody likes him. He is handsome, polite, respectful, and an all in one package so Brielle could not rationalize as to why he would think that there are no girls who like him. He is perfect.

Not sure what to reply and her palms getting sweaty, she typed. ”Great, ” And put her phone away. After a few minutes of pondering the last text she sent while biting her nails, she can help but slap herself.

”Why did you type in great like some sort of a girl who is very happy he has no girlfriend?! Why?! What is wrong with you?! ” Brielle shouted on the pillow and asked herself aggressively while she while punching the bed.
